DataMask – Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2025-08-20
DataMask is a Chrome extension that lets you anonymize chosen words/phrases on any webpage and copy a sanitized version for use in AI tools. It is designed to be private by default.
What data we collect
We do not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. The extension does not make network requests to our servers or to third parties.
How the extension works
- On-device processing: Replacements are applied in your browser when you click a button. Processing happens in memory only.
- Local rules: Your dictionary (patterns + replacements) is stored in
chrome.storage.local
on your device. - Clipboard: When you click “Anonymize & Copy…”, the extension writes the sanitized text to your clipboard.
- No page content leaves your device: We do not upload, log, or analyze page content.
Permissions we request & why
activeTab
– access the current tab only when you click a copy action, to read visible text.scripting
– run a small, declared script to generate sanitized text.storage
– save your local dictionary of rules.clipboardWrite
– place the anonymized text on your clipboard after you request it.contextMenus
– optional right-click actions for copying.
What we do not do
- No analytics, ads, tracking pixels, or telemetry.
- No external scripts, no remote code, no CDN dependencies.
- No cookies, and we do not access your passwords or browsing history.
Your controls
- Edit or delete rules at any time in the popup.
- Removing the extension deletes its local data from your browser.
Third-party websites
DataMask manipulates text already rendered by sites you visit, but it does not control those sites. Their own privacy policies apply when you use them.
Children’s privacy
DataMask is a general-utility tool and does not target children. We do not knowingly collect any personal information.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the extension handles data (for example, adding paid features that require a license check), we will update this page and the extension description before release.
DataMask runs entirely in your browser. If you believe the extension is behaving otherwise, please report it immediately.
